As we age, we get wrinkles. Some more than others though. So, WHY is that? Hopefully, the explanation below will help you understand why that is and how we can reverse it.

The human body has many many functions and is capable of fixing most of what’s wrong with us. However, this cannot happen if we overload it with synthetic foods, pharma drugs and an otherwise unhealthy lifestyle leaving us depleted of many crucial vitamins and minerals. Knowing what this is and how we can fix it can dramatically improve our health, and, for this topic, we are focusing on our wrinkly skin and how to reverse, or, even prevent it in the first place!!

Today’s lifestyle for most of us can get in the way of our health. Lack of good regenerative sleep is on the top of my list. The food choices we make, the air we breathe, all can be confusing to our body and throw it off kilter. Each and everything we do has an impact on our health and how we look. A “healthy” body on the inside will shine through on the outside.

Two major factors to anti-aging, anti-wrinkly are: G A G (Glycosaminoglycans’) and IGF-1.

Let’s talk GAG first, as GAG is responsible for taking your skin from a rough, wrinkly dehydrated condition to a more healthy, youthful hydrated appearance.

GAG is responsible for keeping the skin Electrically Hydrated, helps repair proteins and collagen in your skin, and also helps you make healthy vibrant collagen in skin. If you don’t have enough GAG everything becomes saggy, droopy and hardened looking. Most people tend to think It’s the sun that does this. You’ll be happy to know that is not necessarily true (actually Vitamin D in sunshine protects the skin – more on that another time). GAG is also responsible for keeping the discs in your spine really healthy and hydrated. If you find yourself shrinking as you age, we know this is a huge indicator you don’t have enough GAG. Unfortunately, you cannot just take a supplement and see the change because what controls this hydrating anti wrinkly chemical is IGF-1 (Insulin Like Growth Factor #1)

IGF-1, also, known as the anti-aging hormone is controlled by the liver and is an extension of GAG. Taking a growth hormone is not recommended as can come with some pretty nasty side effects. Therefore, we recommend getting it naturally, which, in turn, will improve your overall skin.

  • 1. If Insulin is HIGH IGF goes down.
  • 2. Improve your sleep. If you are only getting 5-6 hours sleep at night this will age you quicker. IGF-1 is produced during sleep. This is why we call it “regenerative” sleep. Good sleep also helps to lower cortisol (adrenal stress). Even napping during the day will help. Taking a sleep aid (not over the counter) can significantly help with good sleep. Melatonin, Tranquinol, Hemp Oil, are all good go-to’s to help you relax and fall asleep. Between the hours of 10pm and 2am the body is producing IGF naturally.
  • 3. HIIT will increase IGF naturally (long distance running is not recommended as this can cause stress to your adrenals). It is suggested doing a HIIT workout every other day, or every third day.
  • 4. Monitor your Protein intake. Ideally, grass fed quality meats, dairy (6-8oz)
  • 5. Enhance your liver with milk thistle, dandelion, organic liver, all this makes IGF. Take a peek at your gut. If you have one, you very likely do have a fatty liver.
  • 6 .Intermittent fasting helps tremendously here. When you are NOT eating you are stimulating IGF-1. When you eat you Stimulate Insulin. NOT eating is good!!   • 7.Taking Fat Soluble Vitamins such as Vitamin A, D3 and K2 all enhance the production of IGF. Eating egg yolk from organic pasture raised chickens is excellent. Cod Liver Oil (EPA/DHA) and Grass Fed Butter all fabulous sources to stimulate IGF-1.
